Called to Change
At Sacred Heart Catholic Primary and Nursery school we ensure Christ is at the centre of everything we do. We base our curriculum on a Called to Change theme. We want our pupils to have an amazing future as an active and caring member of society. We focus on improving lifeskills and giving children opportunities where they can thrive and acheive. Design Technology gives children the oppotunity to be creative and learn skills that they can take into further life which could be instrumental in ensuring our children become active and valued members of society. The subject also gives childen the chance to focus on oracy in the collaboration and group work that the subject requires.
Intent
To build a deign technology curriculum which develops learning and results in the acquisition of knowledge and skills. Children will know more, remember more and understand more.
To give children the freedom to express their creativity through designing and making.
To engage, challenge and inspire pupils to apply their skills to create their own works of art.
To investigate and evaluate outcomes.
To promote imagination, risk-taking and collaboration through termly projects in DT.
Implementation
The Design Technology National Curriculum and EYFS is planned for and covered in full within the EYFS, KS1 and KS2 school curriculum. Whilst the EYFS and National Curriculum forms the foundation of our curriculum, we make sure that children learn additional skills, knowledge and understanding and enhance our curriculum as and when necessary.
Design Technology is linked to our topic so children will have an interest in this.
A range of artists are used across the school to make sure they look at different artists in different years,
Children will be taught a range of skills and will be encouraged to use these.
Children will use Showbie to evidence their Design Technology. This will provide evidence for a ‘research, design, make and evaluate’ model.
Children will do a DT project termly and sometimes have one for homework.
Impact
Children will have a better understanding of Design Technology.
Children will express their creativity through designing.
Children will have a knowledge of a range of artists.
Children are prepared with skills that are transferable into future work life.
Children self-evaluate their end pieces against its strengths and weaknesses, then offer ways to improve their work.
Children gain skills in collaboration, investigation, construction evaluation and designing.
Assessment
To assess Design Technology all teachers complete endpoints at the end of every half term. They give percentages of children that are working towards, meeting age related standards and working at greater depth. The children that are not meeting age related expectations will then get further support moving forward in order to try and fill any gaps in learning.
