In our Nursery, we aim to help your child to develop physically, emotionally, socially, intellectually and creatively. We believe that the main way in which children grow in these areas is through play and so we aim to provide an environment that encourages children in their play, promotes independence and facilitates their learning.
We really want the time your child is with us to be a positive, stimulating and enjoyable experience. We want them to grow in confidence and independence as they begin to learn new skills and develop socially and emotionally.
We aim to provide a broad, balanced, stimulating and supportive environment in which each child can grow and develop. One of our goals for the children is to help them become as independent as possible. This means giving them lots of opportunities to make choices, including freedom to access the resources they would like and the freedom to play inside and outside.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum which is very holistic. It has seven areas of learning and we plan our activities carefully in order to meet the needs of children within this framework.
There are three ‘Prime Areas’ and four ‘Specific Areas’. The Prime Areas focus on the relationships, experiences, communication and the children’s physical development. These are the foundations for children’s development.
The prime areas are:
- Communication and Language (C&L);
- Physical Development (PD); and
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED).
As children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 specific areas. These are:
- Literacy (L)
- Mathematics (M)
- Understanding the World (UW); and
- Expressive Arts and Design (EAD).
In Nursery we use Tapestry which is a wonderful online resource that allows the Nursery team to share your child’s learning and development in the setting. You can comment on and like the observations we share, which we encourage to help develop our relationships with our families.
We will also post any letters, or information that you may need, onto Tapestry so please check your child’s page regularly.
Tapestry allows both the school and you to keep track of your child’s learning and clearly see how they progress through the Early Years Foundation Stage.
It also provides the opportunity for you to share some of the lovely things you do at home with your child which we love to see.
