Welcome To St Francis

Teachers: Miss Pryer
HLTA: Mrs Kendall
Teaching Assistant - Mrs Mcilduff

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Year 2 children will be taking their SATs tests during May.

St Francis class have PE scheduled for Monday and Wednesday afternoons, so please make sure children have their P.E kits in school.

We have swimming on Friday mornings during the last half term of the Summer term when children will need a swimming costume or trunks and towel in a bag.

As part of becoming more responsible for their own learning, children in St Francis will be encouraged to look after their belongings and prepare for school independently. This may mean making sure they have their reading book in their bag or making sure they have remembered to bring in their homework on time (Friday).

Children will all be given Logins for Spelling Shed to help develop and improve spelling.

English

In English this Spring half Term we will be reading books based around The Great Fire of London. We use the information we have found out to write diary entries and reports.

Maths

In maths we are focusing on number, statitistics ( graphs, tally charts and pictograms) shape, money and  time. We are also continuing to do weekly Big Maths CLIC checks which allows us to revise strategies and areas of maths on a weekly basis. We will focus on strategies and how to use them across a range of question types.

You can help your child by practising telling the time using an analogue clock and counting money and working out change.

It is more important than ever that Year 2 sharpen their mental skills and crack their times tables! By this we mean learning the whole multiplication fact, not just the answer, e.g. 2x10=20. This will help in countless areas of maths and speed up the activities we do.

Topic

During the Spring Term our topic will be The Great Fire of London. Within this topic the children will learn about the causes and consequences of this major historical event.  We will be learning how to use a range of historical sources such as Samuel Pepys diary to find out information.

Science

In science we will be learning about materials and their properties such at waterproofing and absorbency.
